Azerbaijan Wants Indian Weapon: Amidst the long-running dispute with Armenia, Azerbaijan has expressed its desire to buy arms from India. Not directly, but through a third friendly country a message has been sent to New Delhi. The news of Azerbaijan purchasing Indian arms is surprising because it has always been taking arms from Pakistan or Türkiye. At the same time, Azerbaijan’s enemy country Armenia has purchased many defense systems from India. This is why this desire of Azerbaijan has attracted the attention of other countries.
According to the report of The Print, India has ignored this message from Azerbaijan. It has been made clear in New Delhi that India will decide its bilateral relations itself and it does not want anyone to become a middleman in this. Overall, India has not shown any interest in supplying arms to Azerbaijan.
Third country becomes middleman
Some people associated with this matter said that Azerbaijan never talked directly with India on this subject, neither officially nor informally. Apart from all this, a third country contacts India and says that if the South Asian country wants to export its indigenous weapons and is looking for a long-term partnership, then they can look towards Azerbaijan. People said that Azerbaijan wants to match the existing deals with India with its enemy Armenia.
Wants to strengthen the fighter aircraft fleet
In the past few years, amid the ongoing dispute with Azerbaijan, Yerevan has turned to India to further strengthen its armed forces and has purchased rocket launchers, artillery guns, ammunition, sniper rifles and anti-tank missiles. Not only this, Armenia is buying more missiles to strengthen its fleet of Sukhoi Su30 fighter planes.
Yerevan supports India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir
For India, Armenia is not just a constant defense partner but is also seen as a political partner in the region and has close relations with France. Greece, another partner of India, can also send arms to Armenia to help boost its defense capabilities. Yerevan has also been a strong supporter of India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir. India, France and Greece are all looking to support Armenia’s security capabilities. In comparison, Azerbaijan is considered part of a growing group of countries including Türkiye and Pakistan.
